Oceana Trinco is a newly developed boutique beachfront hotel in Trincomalee, created to offer modern comfort, warm Sri Lankan hospitality and convenient access to the eastern coastline.
Twelve thoughtfully designed rooms — six sea-facing and six road-facing — built and furnished from new, with air conditioning, modern en-suite bathrooms and wi-fi throughout.
We are small on purpose. Twelve rooms is the number where the person who checks you in still has time to tell you where to eat.
A small hotel does a few things properly rather than many things adequately.
Colombo airport is six hours by road; we arrange a car and a driver who stops where you ask. The Trincomalee train is twenty minutes away and we meet it free.
Trincomalee's beaches are minutes away, and the desk will tell you which one suits the day — the calm side, the quiet side, or the one with the boats.
String hoppers, egg hoppers, pol sambol, seasonal fruit and real coffee, served on the terrace until half past ten.
Masks and fins are free to guests. Boats to Pigeon Island and the whale grounds are booked through the desk at the boatman's own price.

We came for three nights in July and stayed nine. The sea was flat every single morning, the kitchen cooked whatever the boats brought in, and nobody once tried to sell us a tour.
